On June 26th, swim schools, instructors, and families across the globe made a splash for a cause that’s as vital as it is fun—water safety. At the heart of this effort is the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL), a worldwide event designed to raise awareness about drowning prevention through the power of swim education. This year, Sea Love Swim was proud to join forces with fellow programs in Nashville to make waves for water safety!

What is the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson?

Now in its 16th year, the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is a global initiative with

one simple, powerful message: swimming lessons save lives. Held simultaneously at hundreds of locations across the world, the WLSL brings together communities to raise awareness about the importance of teaching children how to swim—one of the most effective tools in preventing drowning.

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1-4, and the WLSL exists to combat that sobering statistic by promoting early water education. It’s not just about swimming—it's about building life-saving skills, confidence, and respect for the water in a fun, engaging way.

Sea Love Swim Joins the Nashville Effort

This year, Sea Love Swim had the honor of partnering with swim programs across the Nashville area at the Gordon Jewish Community Center to host the WLSL locally. Alongside programs like Nashville Dolphins, JCC Swim Academy, Worden Aquatics, Miss Anna’s Swim School, and Nashville Swim Academy, we came together with one mission: help families in Middle Tennessee learn essential water safety skills.

It was truly inspiring to see a community of swim professionals come together for a shared cause. The day wasn’t just about who teaches where—it was about why we teach: to help kids thrive and stay safe in and around water.

United for Water Safety

What made this event so special was the spirit of collaboration. It’s rare to see so many different swim organizations join forces, but water safety has no competition—it’s a cause we all believe in. From nonprofit programs to private swim academies, everyone brought their strengths and unique teaching approaches to make the event impactful, educational, and fun.

Together, we welcomed over 100 participants at the GJCC and moved through a series of 8 hands-on water activity stations designed to teach water safety, floating, kicking, breath control, rescue skills, and more. Each station was staffed by experienced instructors ready to guide families through the skills kids need to stay safe in the water.

Our Station: Ring Retrieval and Breath Control

At Sea Love Swim’s booth, we focused on a foundational skill that’s as fun as it is essential—object retrieval! Using rings, toys, and floating objects, our station helped children build breath control and underwater confidence—two key elements in early swim development.

Many young swimmers feel nervous about submerging their face or holding their breath underwater. By using games and gentle encouragement, our instructors helped kids explore underwater movement while learning to safely hold their breath and retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool.

This type of activity translates directly to stronger swimming skills and promotes calmness and control underwater—something we emphasize in every Sea Love Swim lesson. Plus, the kids had a blast diving for rings and showing off their new skills!

A Ripple Effect of Impact

Participating in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson was more than just a fun summer event—it was a reminder of the greater purpose behind what we do at Sea Love Swim. Water safety isn’t just a seasonal priority—it’s a year-round mission. We're honored to be part of a global movement that’s working to protect children, educate families, and build stronger, safer swimmers from the start.

We’re already looking forward to next year and hope to continue expanding our impact, one splash at a time.
